Formerly a Cardinal's palace, the Borghese Gallery now abounds with famous statues and paintings by masters such as Bernini and Caravaggio. Our expert art historians will show you the spectacular freascoes, sculptures and gardens of Rome's most beautiful noble Villa.
It is considered one of the most beautiful museums in the world. The Borghese Gallery was the country house of the Borghese family, a rich and powerful family of Rome in the first half of XVII century. Their palace is now a state museum that hosts a precious collection of Renaissance and Baroque works.
Our guided tour starts at the entrance of the Borghese Museum. There you will see Ancient Roman artworks including original statues and mosaics with fighting gladiators. Another room contains a great collection of Caravaggio's paintings.such as St. Jerome and Sick Bacchus.
Bernini's sculptures are scattered here and there and they are the main attractions of the museum: Apollo and Daphne, the Rape of Proserpine, David. The tour continues to the former apartments of the cardinal Scipio Borghese hosting paintings by Raphael, Titian, Correggio,Cranach.
The visit will end with a relaxing walk through the gardens reaching one of the most fascinating view points of Rome. Advance booking is strongly advisable! Our tours sell out well in advance and our top-rated tour guides might not be available at the last minute.
We had heard that it is necessary to book tours for the most popular sites in Rome. Not sure if this was true or not, I booked a tour for the Vatican with Private Tours of Rome and with other companies. The Vatican Tour with Francesca was, by far, the best. She was knowledgeable, friendly and energetic--and with roaring heat we appreciated the optimism. I wish that we had booked all of our tours with this group!.
